How we work

You can count our customers in their hundreds, not thousands, but that's just the way we and our customers like things. Working like this gives us the time and resources to give our projects the care and attention they deserve. It means our designer, cabinet makers, polisher and fitting team can do real justice to our handmade furniture.

The way we do things:

Skills and experience are absolutely crucial at Daedalian we know that being easy and enjoyable to work with are worth their weight in gold too. For us, communication is the other key to a smooth working relationship. The way we see it, there are five key stages in how we do things at Daedalian.

1. Before we start

The best end results are achieved when we're involved right from the start. Daedalian aim to begin our collaboration with an informal visit during the architect's planning stage so that we can work with you and your architect, influencing plans and layouts where necessary.

2. Consultation

Catherine Senior, our designer and company co-director, will visit you at your home. She'll bring a portfolio of completed projects to give you a feel for the styles, practical solutions and standards of workmanship that Daedalian can achieve.

No special preparation is needed on your behalf and there's no obligation to take things further if you decide Daedalian furniture isn't for you. Catherine will get to know your property, your taste and your lifestyle, and will listen to any thoughts and ideas you've already had. This is also a good opportunity to discuss practicalities like time-scales and whether you'd like us to project manage additional services like plumbing and building work.

3. Proposal

Shortly after the initial consultation, Catherine will present drawings, floor plans and material samples for your approval. With these in hand we can then work together to alter and refine the design until you're entirely happy with the plans. Once the finished design has been agreed upon and an order made, final working drawings will be produced by Jonas Hartley, the project manager and experienced cabinet maker who'll be responsible for the production of your custom made furniture.

4. Production

Jonas will personally manage the team of full-time cabinet makers who individually craft your hand-built furniture, making sure they understand and implement every last feature and detail agreed in the proposal. Using carefully selected pieces of the finest raw materials, coupled with tried-and-tested cabinet making techniques handed down over generations, our team will meticulously prepare, assemble and finish your furniture at our workshop in Oxenhope, West Yorkshire. You'll also be invited to visit the workshop to see your furniture being built and experience first hand our passion for quality workmanship.

5. Delivery

Once your hand made furniture is complete - and we're confident it meets the standard that our reputation is built on - we'll deliver it to your home at a time that suits you. If required, our full-time fitting team will use their skills and ingenuity to ensure that installation is done with the same care and attention to detail that went into the creation of your furniture. Finally, when everything's in place, components have been checked and we're happy that you're delighted, we'll gather our tools, sweep up and leave you to enjoy your new furniture in peace.
